Tool Holder Runout Detection System
Prevents accuracy problems cased by the contamination in between the tool holder and spindle taper (Patent Pending)
When ?
With the high speed of today's ATC cycle, as fast as 0.5 seconds, it is difficult to completely ensure removal of contaminants by the spindle air blast system. Especially for 2 face contact (simultaneous fit) tool holders, which are widely used for mass-production applications, are much easier to get contaminants.
The contaminants cause small runout on the tool flange. The runouts, of course, will be much bigger at the tool tip as shown in the left animation.
How ?
Yamazaki Mazak has found that contaminants will cause small runout on the tool flange, and developed a system that freeze the machining cycle when it senses the runouts before producing rejected parts.
The system measures runouts on the tool flange right after the ATC cycle. If the runout were smaller than adjustable preset amount, the system let machine to continue the machining cycle. When it senses bigger runout, the system stops machining cycle to prevent producing failure parts.
It only require 0.3 seconds to check tool runouts.
Minimum time required for measurement
The system can be applied only on arbitrary tools.
A workpiece, like shown left animation, require several tools such as Face mills, Drills, Taps, Reams and Boring bars to complete machining operation.
In such case, you can only set the measuring cycle on arbitrary tools, such as Reams and Boring bars that has tight tolerances.
Let say the machining cycle of a workpiece is 15 minutes and require 20 tools. If 5 tools are measured with this system, the additional time required for measurements is just 1.5 seconds (0.3 seconds / tool).
Easy installation
The system can easily be installed on existing* Machining Centers.
